Webcam Whiteboard (WW) makes use of the ability of a webcam to see infrared (IR) light. The tracking engine of WW can easily detect and distinguish between several blobs. Using a pen with an infrared LED in the tip, you can track the position of this pen. Because of the infrared light, the human eye doesnt notice anything about this. With a little effort every standard webcam is suitable. With this setup you can turn your screen or whiteboard into a tablet/interactive whiteboard. The interactive whiteboard is just one possibility to use WW. There are many more. Get an overview of WW`s possibilities here. Additionally to a computer you need: Hardware

Modified WebcamThe webcam needs to be modified, so that it sees just the infrared light of your pen and nothing else! First you need to remove the IR filter. Its mostly behind the lens. After that take an IR pass filter to block light which is not IR. If you dont want to buy professional filters, take photo or floppy films. See here. Here is a picture showing the webcam`s image and the settings. These settings should be set automatically, so that the images of your webcam looks just like this one. If not you have to set your webcam settings yourself. See Extras - Settings - Video Capture Filters. There you can open the settings window. Recommended settings are: Lowest brightness, lowest gamma, lowest exposure, highest contrast and turn off the automatic exposure.
Webcam positioningThis is a diagram which shows you one possible position-arrangement of the camera and the screen. I used this positions in my videos too. The camera should see the whole screen, but take care that you dont block the view of your camera. For example when you use your right hand, you can place the camera on the left side of you. A very good position is also above you and the screen:
